Lethbridge Airport Master Plan

Lethbridge Airport Master Plan

An upgraded passenger terminal, increased parking capacity and increased commercial development are all part of suggested recommendations in the Lethbridge Airport Master Plan.

The Community Issues Committee (CIC) heard a presentation today from City administration which gave an overview of the findings and suggested upgrades discovered while developing the master plan. City Manager, Bram Strain, says the goal of the master plan was to find cost-effective solutions for upgrades in the short, medium and long-term.

"Developing a master plan has allowed us to find areas for improvement and expansion which will better serve our city and surrounding area," says Strain. "There are several opportunities, both in terms of commercial development and infrastructure, which offer major economic benefit to our region."

The total estimated cost of implementing all recommendations in the airport master plan is more than $35 million dollars. Many of the costs are eligible for several federal, provincial and municipal grants.

"The Lethbridge Airport is an important economic development asset for our city," says Mayor, Chris Spearman. "The information captured in the master plan outlines areas for improvement so we can get the most out of our investment. In the long-term, this will be of great economic benefit to our city and beyond, well into the future."

The CIC voted to refer the Lethbridge Airport Master Plan to City Council for approval at their upcoming May 27 meeting.
